Review: Phantom Road #1
“I was surprised when I reached the end of the issue, I was just sure there was going to be more of it and perhaps more importantly, I wanted more of it.”

“This is a good Bloodshot issue in a short run that is the best take on the character for years. It’s pays homage to the established character with the more thoughtful outlook whilst also delivering on action and violence. It’s a book that deals with trauma, doesn’t shy away from PTSD whilst also delivering classic comic book action. That’s not always an easy balance but is successful here.”
This is a solid third entry. Each issue has brought something new to the table, added to Bloodshot’s character and that is certainly true here as well. Having X-O guest star was a solid choice, bringing a new dimension to Bloodshot in the process.
“There is some truly brilliant stuff in this issue of Bloodshot. The first issue was strong but this second issue not only builds on the first but it builds on the whole character of Bloodshot, his abilities, his past. There are references to the wider Valiant universe too. I was so impressed with the care taken with all of those things too. The writing, art and lettering are solid.”
“This is a solid return for Bloodshot. Surprisingly there is a lot of character work going on. Don’t get me wrong it’s also interesting and action packed but it feels like the mature rating is for more than that.”
“I was very satisfied with the way things went and this was a very fitting end to what has been a pretty solid narrative with the Deadside War.”
“This is a strong issue for Jack Boniface. It’s a great character insight.”
“This is an issue that I think Valiant fans will definitely enjoy. The art is strong and very atmospheric and the writing backs up the storyline and characters really nicely.”
“The stakes are increasing, the lines are being drawn and Shadowman is in the thick of it.”
“I think in many ways this is the most interesting issue so far…”
“…Not to say there isn’t also gore aplenty for those of us that like that sort of thing.”
“The real poetry of the writing lies in Jack’s thoughts as they go across the page as he lets us in on how he perceives the world. That’s one of the more interesting aspects of this issue. It fleshes Jack out a bit.”
“Britannia is not a book to read whilst you are eating”
“An intriguing read with twists, turns, witches and occasional appearances from alligators”
