Review: Time Before Time #19
This is an issue where the investment we’ve had in seeing Nadia reunited with her family has really paid off.
This is an issue where the investment we’ve had in seeing Nadia reunited with her family has really paid off.
The big question is does this final issue both live up expectations and end satisfyingly? It does indeed! It’s also crammed full of the usual references to all things Trek, plenty of humour, actual illusions to science and Boimler in a cape. There’s also action, space battles and computer hacking sentient holograms. Phew.
Hello and welcome to a new feature: Trading Options wherein Angela answers your hypothetical questions about a trade release. Today we’re looking at G.I.L.T. from Ahoy Comics. Written by Alisa Kwitney, with art by Mauricet, and letters by Rob Steen.
It’s been great to have something that readers can recall from previous issues brought back and fleshed out. There are developments in the world going on beyond just Nadia and Tatsuo.
Everything about this issue works as well as any Lower Decks episode and is just plain fun. It’s playing with concepts and ideas that are staples of Star Trek but isn’t mired in nostalgia. If you’re looking for a book featuring Dracula this Halloween start reading Lower Decks. You’ll enjoy it.
“This issue was a real rollercoaster of emotion and the ending brought that home.”
“This plays to that cheeky nostalgia Lower Decks does so well. I had a great time reading it. The art successfully translates the animation and the writing means rereads are rewarded. If you are a fan of Lower Decks already then this is the comic for you. If you are not then hopefully this comic may change your mind.”
“As always Time Before Time expands out the future, and the past, in interesting directions”
There’s musings about life, death and predestination but it tackles them in a really original and unique way within the world
“With touches of humour, genuine peril and important plot I’m enjoying Hellcop more than ever.”
“This was another great look into the world of Time Before Time.”
“This is a really strong start to the second arc. Now the setup has been established it feels like more fun can be had in the universe and this certainly takes some classic concepts like Sasquatch and runs with it. It’s still got a fresh feel but it also has the benefit of strongly established characters and a distinct voice and tone which really works. I’m very much onboard for the next part of the Hellcop ride.”
“This is just a really good book. I am so invested in this world and these characters.”
“This was a strong finish to the first arc. Not only is it a good conclusion it’s set things up well for the future too.”
“Time Before Time is such an excellent book that the highest praise I can give it is that each issue is as good as the last.”
“It’s not really been about the space race, it’s been about connection, about love and home and hope. In that regards this finale pulls those themes off better than ever before.”
