“This second issue is as packed as the first, perhaps more so. The world expands and the plot gets thicker. There’s some real twists and turns and a cliffhanger ending. Really it’s a very solid second issue all around. It’s what you want from a second issue. I enjoyed it possibly more than the first issue.”
This is a solid second issue with a lot of highlights. I enjoyed learning more about Phaedra, more clues in the murder case and the hints of further intrigue. Black Cloak is shaping up to be a solid mystery in a fantasy setting book with an interesting central protagonist.
If you want to read a fun alien take on fantasy with well drawn characters and some intriguing plot then this is the book for you. The setting is interesting and the world building solid. It’s throwing around details that draw you in. For me this was a really good first issue and this is another world I want to see more of. The Last Barbarians is a great first issue.
I’m so glad to be back in the world of Barbaric. All these volumes run into each other building up an epic story that doesn’t skimp on the characters at the heart of it. There’s some interesting developments of older plot threads and to have such strong continuity is a bonus as the world feels so fleshed out. I am excited to see what happens next in this arc.
The stakes are now higher than they have ever been and there’s now something of a running villain with Gladius. There are a lot more questions raised even as we get answers about the past. It’s just developing so well and in a way that has me hooked completely. I am impatient for more. Owen is in real trouble. Axe has a new status quo. Soren too and Steel has much to come to terms with. It’s also very clearly not over yet. I can’t wait to see what the hell is in store next.
“That’s what I love most about Quests Aside, the characters. Those characters who are likeable yet have have flaws and are interesting and all have their own struggles. Quests Aside is the focal point for their stories and they are told so well.”
“I am invested despite my lack of a pro-wrestling background and I would implore readers to check this comic out whether you are into the subject matter or not.”
“There are such nice little plays on common fantasy tropes which is what makes Quests Aside such a fun read. For me I’m enjoying each issue more and more as I get to know the characters better.”
