Alice In Leatherland #5 gives the perfect fairytale ending for our favourite fairytale writer. I have nothing but love for this series. Iolanda Zanfardino and Elisa Romboli have created a romance comic that’s fun and lighthearted, relatable in every moment and with superb artwork throughout.
I really don’t want to go into spoilers for this issue, but if you’ve been reading the series so far you might have some inkling of where this issue goes. Alice and Robin have been finding themselves at odds throughout the series, which has led to some great tension building between the pair as they both navigate the complicated world of dating. This issue starts by revealing that Alice has met someone who seems perfect for her, but there’s some twists to the story as our characters realise what it is they really want.
The two sides of Elisa Romboli’s artwork, Alice’s life and the book she’s been working on, continue to come together perfectly in this issue, with a nice move in the narrative towards the end that added an explanation of who illustrated Alice’s fairytale.
This is the ending that Alice In Leatherland deserved. I came away from it legitimately happy for Alice to have found what she always wanted in love. Iolanda Zanfardino and Elisa Romboli have put together a fantastic series in Alice In Leatherland, a cast of relatable and varied characters makes it easy to see something of yourself within the series. If you’ve ever been through a sudden breakup or struggled to get back on your feet after a relationship you’ll definitely feel for what Alice is going through. As a series Alice In Leatherland has been a fun, uplifting romantic comedy with great representation throughout and incredible artwork.
While I appreciate that romantic comedy might not be to everyone’s taste, this is without a doubt one of the best series’ I’ve read this year and I’m eager to see more from both members of the creative team. I would also love to see more stories from the characters of Alice In Leatherland.
