After Hotdog is hit by a car Jughead turns to Sabrina for help hoping her magic can save him. But in bringing his beloved pet back from the grave, Jughead and Sabrina give Riverdale more than they’d bargained for.
Afterlife With Archie feels like a love letter to horror classics, with Night Of The Living Dead and Pet Sematary being just two notable influences. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s writing sets an immediate pulp-horror tone which suits the zombie story perfectly, showcasing the Archie cast of characters in a different light than you may be used to but with all the same heart. However it’s Francesco Francavilla’s gorgeous artwork that really steals the show, bringing to life (and afterlife) every nightmarish moment.
I’d go as far as to say that Afterlife With Archie is a must read if you’re looking for a zombie comic, serving as an alternate universe introduction to the world of Archie as well as an excellent horror read.
