With its inspiration clearly taken from Stephen King’s The Body (you know the story that would become Stand By Me), Plutona is the story of a group of kids who find a dead body in the woods. But this body happens to belong to Earth’s greatest hero.
Maybe I’m cheating a bit and this isn’t actually a horror story, but it is a standalone graphic novel from two brilliant creators. It’s also an excellent dark journey following five adolescent protagonists as they struggle to decide what to do about their discovery while also dealing with all the troubles of being a teenager.
Throughout Plutona Emi Lenox’s artwork perfectly captures the emotion and tone of every scene, whilst Jeff Lemire demonstrates his outstanding character work all the while blending together superhero and indie comic styles to create something truly unique.
